If you're neck-and-neck with your opponent, try cutting them off into traffic in the oncoming lane. Keeping The Pace One of the many things that slip people's minds is the fact that this is illegal street racing, and since it's also a video game, why should you care about the other vehicles on the road? Use the traffic in the game to "play dirty" against the other drivers. If the turn is to the left, you will want to make the left turn, and tug right on the directional pad/analog stick so you do not go spinning completely to the left.
Just keep in mind that you should even your turns out by pushing in the opposite direction of the curve. On The Road!
